SAFETY GUIDE

AEMO TUTORS SAFETY GUIDE

At AEMO TUTORS, the safety of our students, parents and their home is FIRST. So, what are the steps we take to ensure your safety?

1. Verification of Identity
All our tutors undergo thorough identity verification. We go the extra mile to verify their identity through all possible means. We scrutinize inconsistent identity presented and ensure all tutors can be easily apprehended in the event of misconduct of any such. Our tutors provide details of accessible guarantors who equally verify their identity and accept responsibility for any loss and/or damage caused by the misconduct of the tutor and are liable to be prosecuted in the absence of the tutor.

2. Background Check
We subject our tutors to appropriate background checks. This check helps to identify criminal records or history that may pose a risk to you, your home or your ward(s). Our tutors, before being enlisted, give their consent to be checked for safety purposes. We often carry out preliminary background checks before assigning tutors to homes after which it is followed by a further in-depth background check. Where further in-depth background checks indicate that a tutor, already assigned to your home, poses a risk to you, your home or ward(s), we immediately withdraw the tutor from the place of assignment. This is important as we prioritize your safety and that of your home and ward(s).

3. Feedbacks from previous clients
Feedbacks from parents, students and guardians about a tutor is an important means through which we ascertain if a tutor poses any risk in any way. In the event of a report from a parent, students or guardians that indicate that a tutor poses a risk in any way, we do not assign such tutors to any home or lesson because we prioritize the safety of our students, parents and their home. At aemo tutors, safety is first. These are the steps we take to ensure you, your home and your wards are in safe hands with us.

As a parents/guardian and students, you have a role to play too as regards your safety. Please, carefully go through our safety tips below for your compliance.

Safety tips

  1. All tutoring sessions should be supervised by a responsible adult.
  2. Avoid holding the lesson in a bedroom. A central location in your home, often the kitchen table, dining table, study table (if not in the child’s bedroom), uncluttered learning zone or anywhere open with a table and chair is the preferred arrangement.
  3. For online tutoring, implement parental control settings on the devices your child uses. This helps monitor and restrict access to inappropriate content. Also, consider monitoring software to monitor your child’s online activity and ensure they only access appropriate content during tutoring sessions.
  4. Sit in on the first lesson or two, especially at the beginning and if your child is younger. Gradually grant more independence as you get to know the teacher and establish trust.
  5. Always leave the door open so you are within earshot.
  6. Regularly check in with your child about their experiences with their teacher. Create an environment where they feel comfortable sharing any concerns or discomfort. Teach your child about online safety and appropriate behavior. Encourage them to communicate openly with you if they feel uneasy about anything.
  7. Discuss privacy measures with the teacher, such as your child recording the lesson for future use, using a virtual whiteboard and ensuring that screen sharing is limited to the necessary materials
  8. Communicate to the tutor your expectations for punctuality, professionalism, and compliance with safety procedures.
  9. Maintain open communication with the teacher. Discuss any concerns promptly and ensure there is a clear channel for ongoing dialogue.
  10. If your child has any allergies or medical issues, make sure you let the tutor know beforehand. It could be anything from headache to mild dizziness or more serious illnesses, but alerting the tutor will eliminate a certain amount of risk when you aren’t around to supervise.
  11. Make sure that your child would always have an older family member around during the classes. We don’t advise you to leave a learner alone with the tutor, each time they are having a class.
  12. Trust your instincts as a parent. If something doesn’t feel right, address it immediately and consider reaching out to us for a change of tutor if necessary. Remember, as a parent, your primary responsibility is prioritizing your child’s well-being above all else.
